Instructors

Team Vaghi prides itself on quality instruction. From Rodrigo himself, to the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, or MMA coaches, the instruction offered at Team Vaghi is second to none.

Rodrigo Vaghi

Rodrigo Vaghi started his training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, the “gentle art”, at age 14 in the original Gracie Academy Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.  Vaghi’s instructors were none other than Grandmaster Helio Gracie (the creator of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) and his sons:  Rickson, Royce, Royler and Rolker.

After many years of training with the Gracie Family, Rodrigo has become a family friend and a representative of the Gracie family outside of Brazil.  Rodrigo is currently a 4th degree black belt under undisputed champion of the Gracie’s, Rickson Gracie, and is the highest ranked black belt representative of Rickson Gracie outside of Brazil.  Rodrigo was recently inducted into the Martial Arts Hall of Fame.

As a competitor Rodrigo has won several Jiu-Jitsu championships, with the most recent of which being the 2011 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro.

Rodrigo not only won the black belt division in not only his weight class, but the open division as well.  While he still enjoys competing at the highest levels, he lives to pass down his knowledge and expertise to his students of BJJ and MMA alike.

Quinton O’Brien

Head Muay Thai coach Quinton O’Brien has been training in the Muay Thai since 2005.

Trained originally at Vaghi Martial Arts, Quinton started competing in 2008. He won the Missouri Light Heavyweight Muay Thai title in his first year as a fighter, and has since gone on to become the first fighter to win the Thai Boxing Association Tournament in back to back to back years (185 lb 3-9 fight B class division in 2009, 10+ fight 185 lb A class division in 2010 and 2011).

Noted for his technically precise fighting style, Quinton teaches a dutch style of Muay Thai. Choosing to emphasize a strong mix of hands, feet and knees combined with spacing and movement, his goal is to minimize output and maximize damage.
